FENCES GUIDELINES

At the present time, South Coventry Township does not require permits for fencing a property.  However, the following guidelines apply:

1.  Cannot exceed six feet (6’) above grade
2.  Must not be placed in the “legal right-of-way”
3.  Must not create a traffic hazard by obstructing drivers’ line of view
4.  Must not infringe on site triangles of driveway or street intersection
5.  Must not obstruct natural overflow of storm water; drainage swales need to be   
     maintained
6.  Must not be placed in easements

RECOMMENDATIONS:

1.  Fences should be placed far enough from neighboring property lines to allow the property owner to install and maintain the fence without standing on neighboring property.

2.  Fences that run perpendicular through easements should have gates that will open the full width of the easement.  This is to allow access by the appropriate person(s) for purpose of maintenance, inspection, etc.

3.  Homeowners should make certain that fence style or type is in compliance with any covenants or deed restrictions placed upon their property.
